The Old Mill

A working mill until the 1970s, disused until 2021. The brief was to produce a family home that kept the mill machinery in place, read as a mill from every external view, and worked for modern family life. Every intervention is reversible.

We worked closely with the conservation officer at South Kesteven District Council and Historic England to secure Listed Building Consent for internal reconfiguration that touched the original fabric as lightly as possible. The mill wheel is visible through a glass floor in the ground-floor kitchen.
