Haymaking House
A contemporary extension to a Grade II listed farmhouse, connecting the original kitchen to a new walled garden.
A sensitive rear extension to a Grade II farmhouse on Little Bytham’s high street, a short walk from the Reeve studio. The clients (second-generation owners) wanted a single connected cooking, eating, and garden room that would serve a growing family without disturbing the listed front elevation or the 17th-century internal plan.
The solution: a slender linking corridor from the original flagstone-floored kitchen, a 9m glazed gable addressing a restored walled garden, and a Collyweston-slated roof to match the main house. Internally, the original pantry and scullery were restored. Externally, the extension sits below the eaves line of the original and is invisible from the high street.
